443 Amazing Wordpress themes and stop polluting the Internet.

If you’re looking for these 443 themes go to the end of this article, but I’d really appreciate it if you read this message.

Okay, Let’s clear this once for all. This site is not powered by Wordpress, I made the bivalidator in python , using some very nice xml/xslt and other magic stuff. The CMS part in the other hand is powered by TextPattern which I find, for the this website, far way better than Wordpress. Anyway, that’s not the subject of this post actually. Read More »

Why, when and how to redesign your website (Part 2: The six legs of failure)

In the first part of this series, we’ve seen that design is about people. People come first, colors and your personal tastes may follow. A re-design becomes an insisting need when one or more of our three actors (coder, marketer and user) are not satisfied with something about the product.

In fact, the six-eyed beast have failed in his mission when one or two, or maybe all the six eyes are blind. In simpler words: it is when he misunderstand the need/abilities of the coder, or the marketer or the users that the design become irrelevant.Read More »

Mid-century art to the rescue: 15 resources to get inspired and learn how to draw the 50's way

My last post about vim has drawn some fuss and wondering . It was nice and all, until a guy told me: “Hey! Funny mspaint drawing!”… Alright, listen: they’re NOT mspaint drawings! I DO NOT use Microsoft Windows and I swear I did them with a real pen on a real sheet of paper :’(

Being the passionate I am, I decided to learn how to draw because It’s never too late for new year resolutions. And I decided to learn this the 50’s way. Why? Because, if you’re looking for great artists, look first at the American mid-century ones. Remember those vintage ads? Comics? See those cartoons? Yes! What a quality! This is art!Read More »

Twitter design contest à la problogger

Darren Rowse, the guy behind problogger has launched the last week a smart challenge in which he asked his readers to give some of their blogging tips in twitter style i.e. use only a maximum of 140 characters.

bq.While I wouldn’t want to write this way all of the time – it does make your pause before twittering something to think about what you want to communicate and how you can do it succinctly. ( Darren Rowse )Read More »

So what's all this fuss about markup and style?

You said "Makeup"?

Wake up! Let's speak about information. You know these things we call brain food. Or before that, lets speak about a real meal —because a man thinks first with his belly before any idea can spark from his brain :) So we have a complete meal with a soupe, salad, meat, bread, juice and all that stuff. We have a container (the plate) and a content (the food)

What's really important here is the food, right? Great! Now, wait! What if the content is all served in the same dish? what if the choclate dessert is mixed with the beaf meat, the juice, the soupe and the bread all served in a jar? Will you still eat that? No, really? you can? I, personally, won't! I'm not that snob, but God! how disguising is thee meal! Read More »

What if people bought cars like they buy computers?

Yes, after all, What if people bought cars like they buy computers? Have I said cars? Sorry :)

Yes! 24 ways is back!

Great news! The best idea I’ve seen in webdesign/webdev teaching is back! 24ways.org is a website that brings, every year since 2005, 24 articles from the 1st December until the 24th (an article a day)

These articles are often written by the greatest names in the profession and are really worth reading. And what makes this website even interesting is that when you’ve read the first, you’ll sure come back every day til the 24th of december to read another good article about another good idea. Thank you guys! This is what I call a gift!Read More »

2 nice lists for freelancers

I told you how I hate most of the N# lists that get dug and bookmarked. It was a bit sarcastic and humorous, but somehow true… won’t you agree?
Well, I said most -not all the lists. In fact, some of them deserve all the honors!

So, today I’ve found two of them by Samuel Ryan:Read More »

HTML5 and media support in webkit

Things are moving on. Webkit nightly build supports <video> and <audio> elements and native support for embedding video and audio content in web pages with a rich scripting API for controlling playback.

Disabling Deprecated HTML Using CSS

Now here's a subject that intersts me. I'm smiling while reading, since it's somehow funny. Not that the used technique isn't technically solid, but the in-your-face procédé is really fun! Some people use the B.A.R.T technique, but this one is really special. This technique combined with the algorithmic phone call bellow really rock!

Client: What happened to that text i tried to make in italics and Sans font?’
You: How did you do that? What tag did you use?
Client: I used the font tag like I did on other sites. Is there something wrong with that?
You: ‘Well, the font tag is not supported anymore since it’s old and not very common. Try these classes I made for you instead.
